Visit to the Agroforesty training and testing centre of Guisamo

Last Tuesday, 20th of November, a group of 46 students of our school visited the Agroforesty training and testing centre of Guisamo, whose main goal is to respond to the training needs of professionals, entities, associations, and population related to agricultural, livestock, forestal needs and revitalization of the rural.

The training given in CFEA of Guisamo conforms to the characteristics of its catchment area and is based on the principles of solidarity, respect and human and environmental sustainability, maximizing this way the exploitation of the local resources.

Accompanied by Pilar and Tonecho, our students could enjoy visiting their native tree plantations, focused this time in apple trees, main focus of our Comenius project “Triple AAA – All About Apples”, and received all kind of explanations about the different types of apple trees, native species of apples, and finally they could carry out a tasting of nine different kinds of apples, on which a vote was conducted so as to choose the species most valued by the students. The winning species will travel to Germany next September to compete with the best apples of the eight other countries involved in the Comenius project. We also bet for our native apples that, although they are not as well-known as other species traded, (e.g. golden…), we consider them to be as good or even better than them. Currently, the students of 1st of Secondary Education are doing the counting of the votes that all the students issued on each of the nine kinds of apples they so kindly provided us in Guisamo.

Our most sincere gratitude to Pilar (mother of our 2nd of Secondary Education student, Andrea Rey), Tonecho, and the principal of the centre: Xosé Lois Arenas for their disposition and collaboration with our Comenius project.
